Year 10 Computer Graphics – Font Creation
November 28, 2018
Fonts are the computer files that encode typefaces used to create text on computers. Font design is challenging, but an excellent design exercise, and it’s part of Mr. Andrei Androsoff’s Computer Graphics course for Year 10. Fonts must be legible and the characters must look like they belong together as a set. This is termed “unity” and is a fundamental principle of graphic design.
It’s also very rewarding to install a font you have created yourself on your own computer and use it in your own designs! This year’s designers were some of the best I’ve seen, and I’m very proud of the work they put into these typefaces.
After creating their fonts using the online tool Fontstruct, Year 10 students created font “demos”, shown below. This is what professional designers do to advertise and showcase their fonts. Enjoy the designs!
